The Launch Effect: A WordPress Theme for Viral Launches

Installation Instructions

It's best to apply the Launch Effect theme to a fresh install of WordPress—and it's definitely not built as an add-on for an existing site (yet!). Once you're sure your WordPress install is running smoothly with the default theme you should be ready to roll:

New Install

1. Upload the Zip In your WordPress admin, go to Appearance > Themes. On that screen, click the tab that says, "Install Themes". In the menu directly below the tab, click "Upload". Upload the ZIP folder. Upon completion click "Activate". A Launch Effect menu should have appeared as the last menu group on the left.
2. Set Your Launch Page as your Homepage Go to Settings > Reading. Where it says, "Front page displays," choose "A static page," and select "Sign-Up" from the dropdown menu.
3. Start Designing! Now for the fun part! The Designer is now divided into three sections: Global Styles, Sign-Up Page, and Theme (premium only). That submenu is located directly under the giant Designer/Integrations/Stats tabs. The best way to get started here is to just start playing around and gaining an understanding of what selections affect which parts of the design. Good luck!
4. Check Your Stats To see who's signed up so far, go to Launch Effect > Stats.
5. If Image Uploads Aren't Working . . . This would be a permissions issue. Via FTP, edit the wp-content folder permissions to be 755. Important: Apply those permissions to the folder and to all of the folder contents. Upload something.
   
   If that still doesn't work, edit the wp-content folder and all of its contents to have the permissions 777. Upload something. Important: If it is now working, go back and edit the wp-content folder and all of its contents back to 755.

How to Update an Existing Install

1. Deactivate and Delete Old Theme Do not just overwrite your current version! In your WordPress admin, go to Appearance > Themes. On that screen, activate one of the other themes that is there, such as "Twenty Eleven". The "Twenty Eleven" theme will move to the Current Theme area, and the "Launch Effect" theme will move to the Available Themes area. Under the Launch Effect theme, click the link to delete the theme.
2. Upload the Zip Remaining on the Appearance > Themes screen, click the tab that says, "Install Themes". In the menu directly below the tab, click "Upload". Upload the ZIP folder for the new Launch Effect version. Upon completion click "Activate". A Launch Effect menu should have appeared as the last menu group on the left.
3. Set Your Launch Page as your Homepage Go to Settings > Reading. Where it says, "Front page displays," choose "A static page," and select "Sign-Up" from the dropdown menu.
